Andrew is a former GC and former Chief Compliance Officer of a major international bank, and has practised in London, Zurich, Sydney and Singapore. He has a wealth of experience in dealing with board level senior management and regulators in business development, contentious and stress situations, across a variety of jurisdictions. These include the major multi-lateral investigations into FX and Libor, a criminal investigation of a bank by the Paris Tribunal de Grand Instance and the regulatory investigations, trial and subsequent imprisonment of Kweku Adoboli, who was convicted of the largest fraud in UK criminal history. He now runs his own coaching and consulting business and works with an international law firm on a mixture of contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters.
Vaughan has over 25 years’ experience in financial services regulation. He began his career in 1989 in Supervision at the FSA and its predecessors (TSA & SFA). His initial role at SFA involved managing a team responsible for supervising private client stockbrokers, overseeing compliance with prudential, CASS, suitability and other key regulations. He then formed and managed a team designed to enhance the regulator’s knowledge of the world’s largest investment banks and led a number of wholesale conduct reviews. On leaving FSA in 2000, he served as Deputy Head of Compliance at the investment banking arms of Credit Suisse and, subsequently, UBS where he oversaw their regulatory relationships and managed a number of high profile regulatory investigations. He moved from Compliance to work directly for UBS’ EMEA Group CEO, overseeing regulatory and reputational risk across the region and enhancing regional governance arrangements. He set-up his own regulatory consulting business in 2012 followed by Medius Consulting the following year. Vaughan can assist firms on a broad range of topics including working with senior executives and directors on governance issues, particularly in relation to the senior managers regime.
